Reading the top-heavy board

The three middle shelves are short and compact. The upper towers are long and visually dominant. The lower banks already show white, brown, pale violet, and orange destinations. That combination tells you two things. First, the center alone cannot solve the board. Second, the lower banks are meant to receive finished groups rather than store mixed opening traffic.

The square road is roomy enough to route one serious tower color at a time. It feels crowded only when short shelf leftovers are left drifting while a tall upper column tries to move.

Recommended route order

Use:

green → yellow → cyan → white → brown → pink → lime → purple → orange cleanup

Green and yellow are the best opening pair because both the center and upper towers support them early. Cyan and white then use the calmer right side. Brown and pink are midgame top-tower cash-outs. Lime becomes easy after the left half is organized. Purple and orange are late finishing columns.

Green and yellow open the handoff

Start with green from the middle-facing pieces and the matching upper support. Green shortens the first tower pressure and makes the square road feel directional instead of crowded. Yellow should follow quickly while the same road geometry still works.

These two colors are not random openers. They are the handoff between the short middle shelves and the long upper towers. In the replay, once green and yellow settle, the center no longer feels like the main task. It becomes a support strip for the tower game.

The first checkpoint is a board where green and yellow are organized and the upper half looks less layered than the opening.

Cyan and white on the right side

Cyan is the first real reward for getting the early handoff right. It uses the top-right and lower-right routes without competing much with the earlier left-oriented work. White then follows through the same broad side after cyan has already thinned the traffic there.

If cyan feels tight, the problem is usually not cyan itself. It means green or yellow was left half-complete and still occupies one of the corners cyan wants. Finish the old owner first.

At the middle checkpoint, the right side should be calmer, one pale-cyan or white column should already be forming, and the center shelves should look shorter rather than busier.

Brown and pink tower phase

Brown becomes the first distinctly upper-tower late color. Pink sits nearby in the upper supply and follows it well once cyan and white have already reduced the right side. These two colors are where the board visibly shifts from center-supported routing into pure tower cleanup.

Do not start lime before brown or pink are stable. Lime is long and visually tempting, but it is cleaner after the other upper colors have already freed their corners.

Lime, purple, and orange finish

Lime takes over one of the late tall towers and usually becomes one of the most obvious endgame columns in the replay. Purple then consolidates from upper leftovers and lower support. Orange is mostly finish work once the center shelves are nearly gone and the lower banks are finally safe to use as real destinations.

By this stage the route is forgiving. If your garage assignments differ slightly from the video, that is fine as long as each color is moving on a mostly empty square loop.

Recovery advice

If the top edge is blocked, finish the tower color already active there. This board punishes changing tower owners more than it punishes small sequence drift.

If the right side is blocked, look back to cyan or white first. If the left side is blocked, look back to green or yellow first. The square loop usually remembers which early color was left unresolved.

If the center shelves still look busy when brown or pink starts, pause and clear the shortest unfinished middle-backed color. The center should support the towers, not steal their lane.

The easiest restart landmarks are: green handoff succeeded, yellow handoff succeeded, cyan owns the right side, white followed it cleanly. Once those are back, the brown-pink-lime upper finish becomes far more stable.

Car Sort Level 289 detailed route reference

Level 289 is a top-heavy handoff puzzle. Use the short middle shelves only to unlock green and yellow, let cyan and white calm the right side, and then cash out the long upper towers through brown, pink, lime, purple, and orange on a road that is no longer fighting back.
